• Tom Challenger (Born in Huddersfield) is a Saxophonist, Composer, Educator, Band Leader and Sideman. With an output characterised by it’s musical breadth, he leads ‘Brass Mask’, which performs music inspired by the traditional street-musics and collective improvisation; ‘Wedding Music’ with Kit Downes in a Church Organ/Saxophone duo; Dice Factory, a jazz quartet exploring alternative methods of composition who released their debut album in 2012 to critical acclaim; and ‘Ma.’ the electro-improv outfit who have released 3 acclaimed albums.   • He is a core member of the ‘Loop Collective’. Loop organizes regular creative music events (including the annual Loop Festival), collaborates with musicians from all over the world and also runs its own record labels.
  • He is a creative-member of ‘Outhouse’ and also ‘Outhouse Ruhabi’, which includes 5 drummers from the Gambia. He is co-leader of Fofoulah, which grew out of ongoing collaborations with Gambian and Senegalese musicians; And Red Snapper – acclaimed electronic visionaries that have been active sine the 1990’s.
  • As a sideman, he has worked and collaborated with Michael Garrick, John Taylor, Jamie Cullum, The London Jazz Orchestra, Mike Gibbs, Hilmar Jensson, Steve Arguelles, Django Bates, John Warren, NYJO, Hans Koller, Clark Tracey, Don Rendell, Chris Bowden, Jean Toussaint, Stan Sulzmann, Cleveland Watkiss, Julian Joseph, Gwilym Simcock, Gene Calderazzo, Simon Purcell, Charles Hayward, Lol Coxhill, John Edwards, Jeff Williams, Elan Mehler, Jose James, Becca Stevens, Kit Downes, Shabaka Hutchings, The Leeds Improvised Music Association (LIMA) and the F-ire Collective.
  • He has also been involved with many non – jazz projects including work with Redsnapper (Warp/Lo), Herbaliser (Ninja Tune), Hype Williams (UK), Tim Holmes (Death in Vegas), Jeremy Warmsley (Transgressive) and The Heritage Orchestra (collaborations include Brian Eno, Deodato, Airto, DJ Yoda, Plaid, Giles Peterson, Amon Tobin and Dwight Trible).
